Thrive Graduation 2021!

On Friday, April 16th we launched the 2021 graduating class into the world after an incredible year of discipleship. This group of 18 was the largest in our 4 years of running the program. But that did not prevent them from forming an incredible bond with each other. The week was filled with tearful moments at different times and the grad evening was no different. It’s always so hard to say goodbye.

Covid restrictions kept our evening small and without guests. But we were still able to celebrate all that God has done through the program. We were fed a spectacular meal by our best-in-the-world kitchen staff. We worshipped one last time as a group, heard some reflective and encouraging words from students and staff and enjoyed many pictures and videos from the year. One of our talented students also blessed us with a musical performance. It truly was a night to remember and a beautiful picture of the special heart work that takes place during eight months focused on seeking God.

Good News of Salvation

I encouraged our students that one thing we never graduate from is the gospel of Jesus Christ. More important than all the knowledge they gained and the life lessons learned is that they carry the good news of salvation wherever they go. I reminded them that there will be battles ahead. Mistakes will be made but we must never hesitate to return to our Lord in repentance. It is my prayer that all Thrive graduates maintain a well-beaten path to the cross so that their good news stays fresh and alive.

As we bid farewell to the young adults we love and treasure the memories made, it is once again time to turn our attention to the next group coming in. We already have 11 applicants for this fall. It will be top priority to add to that number in the coming months. We are making plans for next year’s group to reach at least 18 and we trust that God will lead the way as He always does. If you know someone who could benefit from this 8-month program, please feel free to reach out!

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”  ~Colossians 2:6-7

Bethany Campus Sold – Win for Everyone

On May 1st a new chapter will begin for the Thrive Discipleship Program selling most of Bethany Campus to the Town of Hepburn. We recognize that this change will stir the emotions of many who hold the campus dear. But we also see it as the Lord’s hand at work to help sustain Thrive and preserve a deteriorating building. We are so grateful for the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (CCMBC Investments) who walked alongside us to determine an appropriate price, list the property and upon the sale, will discharge the old mortgage.

We are working hard to raise the remaining $80,000 necessary to retain the dorm on the south edge of campus debt-free which would house our Thrive students. The Town of Hepburn is welcoming us on campus and we are currently working on a lease for specific spaces in the main building. The Town is also better resourced to execute large maintenance projects and invest in the building where needed and they plan to continue making the property available for public use going forward.

God has truly intervened in such a way that Thrive can continue on-site with a modest building to call home. The campus will be preserved and cared for and CCMBC Investments is receiving the funds owed to them. Truly a win for everyone!
