Multiply Board Update

I’d like to share this message from David MacLean, Board Chair of Multiply, which gives you an update on our mission’s impact, finances and search for a new General Director.

Hello, MB pastors and leaders across Canada and the US. I want to thank you for your continued  partnership with Multiply in our worldwide ministry.

As you are aware, a new board was installed at the end of 2020. As the Board Chair, I want to update you on Multiply’s mission impact, our financial position, and the Board’s progress in implementing the recommendations of the Task Force.

First and foremost, we want to celebrate our shared mission impact in 2020. We are so encouraged to see what God is doing. Globally, we saw 377 churches planted and 5,560 people baptized in 68 nations, as reported by our 89 Global Workers and 91 National Leaders. In North America, as we work to facilitate mission engagement among U.S. and Canadian churches, we saw 463 people participate in mission and discipleship training and 279 churches involved in global mission through Multiply. For more detail on impact by region and stories of transformation, please click this link to view our 2020 Global Impact Report.

Thanks to many, many people, Multiply’s financial position is strong. We finished the calendar year with record levels of missionary support, project donations and undesignated gifts. For the fourth straight year, we saw an increase in core donations and average giving per donor.  In December, the number of one-time gifts through our website increased by 69% and the amount given by 34%. As we enter 2021 with a healthy reserve, we are very grateful for the Lord’s gracious provision, the diligence of Multiply’s leadership, and the generosity of God’s people.

The new board is working together to implement the eighteen recommendations that the Task Force presented last year. In light of this, we have begun the recruitment process for a new General Director. Our Personnel Committee has worked diligently to craft an appropriate job description and is determining an effective recruitment strategy with realistic time frames.

In order to ensure stability in the leadership of Multiply in this time of transition, the Board has affirmed Randy Friesen in the role of President until the new General Director has been hired.

As a Board, we are committed to working together to implement all eighteen Task Force recommendations, and we are also committed to the following three things:

  1. Working collaboratively in the best interest of Multiply and our mission.

  2. Establishing two National Director roles (for Canada and the U.S.) to grow mission investment in a way that is unique to each cultural context.

  3. Conducting a thorough, prudent and timely recruitment process for the new General Director and ensuring a God-honoring transition.

We are currently looking for two Board members from the USMB and appreciate your prayers for the Lord to bring us the people he is choosing to partner with us in this important work.

As a board, we would appreciate your prayers. If you could particularly pray Ephesians 1:17, ”I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

We want to be filled with the Spirit of wisdom and revelation that we may know God’s will for Multiply and be able to partner effectively with him in all that he wants to do through his Church around the world.

We are grateful for our partnership with you. We look forward to working together in 2021.

Strength and courage,

David MacLean
Multiply Board Chair
