Summer In the Psalms: Memory Verse Challenge

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Summer in the Psalms. Each week you will receive an email, containing the passage for memorization, and some additional activities.  You will notice that for some of the more complicated verse/passages, there is a preschool option, this is for kids ages 4 and under. The activities/verses DO NOT have to be completed within the week. You will have until August 28 to collect points. The more verses you memorize or activities you do the more points you get. In order to qualify for the activity points, the memory verse) either option 1 or 2, must be completed first. There are 4 different points categories, as you reach each category, you win that prize.

The different prize levels are:

Level 1: 11-36 points: Jumpstart 3 digital CD.

Level 2: 37-62 points: Ice cream night

Level 3: 63-88 points: Family game night package

Level 4 89+: Family Swim Pass

In order to receive points All verses must be said “in person” via zoom, facetime, or during hangout times to Kristen or Morgan (our summer student). All pictures/videos must be submitted via online to Points are awarded as a family unit, if there are 3 children, who say the verses, then they only receive one set of points. If one child says a verse worth 5 points, while the others say the 3 point verse, the family is awarded 3 points.


There is also the option to memorize Psalm 139 for 50 points. This does not have to be done in connection to any other activities or verses.


I encourage you check out songs by doorpost, Jumpstart 3 and Seeds of Worship. Music can be a powerful tool when it comes to memorization, and all 3 companies produce verses with music. You can also check out YouTube, for other songs, actions, etc that will help with the memorization.

Week 1: Psalm 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,

2  but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.


Preschool: Blessed is the one who delights in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law, day and night. Psalm 1a-2 = 2 point

Grade school: Choose one of the following:

Verse 1-2 = 3 point

Verses 1-3 = 5 points

Additional activities:

Pictures of you with a fruit tree = 1 point

Plants some seeds and take pictures of the progress. Once you get produce/flowers, send the set of pictures to Kristen = 5 points


Week 2: Psalm 9:1-2, 10

1 I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
 2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

10 Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you


Verse 10: 2 point

Verses 1-2,10 = 5 points

Additional activities:

  • Write out 3 thank you notes and send them to people who have blessed you (or your family)= 3 points

By making the cards yourself you could earn an extra 3 points! Be sure to send pictures to Kristen

  • Time to write a Psalm. Complete the following template and send it in =1 point.

Video yourself singing it and send it in: 2 points.

Week 3: Psalm 23

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

Time for some action. Create this verse in video form, make sure to include a reading of the verses as you do them

Week 4:

Psalm: 36:5-6,9

5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
 6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals

9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.


36:9 =2points

36:5-6,9 = 6 points

Go star gazing and take some pictures, be sure to send them in = 3 points.

Week 5: Psalm 46:10

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth”

Preschool Memorization: He says: Be still and know that I am God: 2 points

Memorize full verse: 2 points

Create a piece of artwork that reminds you of who God is: 5 points


Week 6: Psalm 47:1-2

Clap your hands, all you nations;
shout to God with cries of joy.

For the Lord Most High is awesome,
the great King over all the earth.


Verse 1: 2 points

Memorize verses 1-2: 3 points

Form a band, with your family, friends or neighbours and sing praises to God. Make a video and send it to Kristen = 3 points, earn 5 points if your worship song is an original.


Week 7: Psalm 90:17

May the favor[a] of the Lord our God rest on us;
establish the work of our hands for us—
yes, establish the work of our hands.

Memorize the passage for 2 points

Find a way to serve someone in your community and send in a video/picture: 10 points

Week 8:

Psalm 107:1-3

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south.[a]


Verse 1: 2 points

Verses 2-3: 3 points

Verses 1-3: 5 points

Make a sidewalk chalk drawing of your favourite verse and send it to Kristen: 2 points

Week 9:

Psalm 143:8-10

8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.
Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,
    for I hide myself in you.
10 Teach me to do your will,
    for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
    lead me on level ground.

Vs 10: 2 points

Vs 8-10: 5 points


Create actions to go along with the memorized verses. Send in a video of you saying your verse with the actions: 3 points.
