I just want to start by sharing a thought from my morning devotions:
19 If it is a matter of strength, he is mighty!
And if it is a matter of justice, who can challenge him?
20 Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me;
if I were blameless, it would pronounce me guilty.
Job 9:19,20
There is a deep concept here in Job’s first reply to Bildad. Job sees the need for a Mediator between God and himself. In the time of the judges, as Israel rises to the heights of anarchy, and Job alone is commended by God, he sees the need for a mediator in the midst of his despair. It is the very severity of his suffering that drives him to seek out God, but he is wise enough to know that even if he is completely righteous and without blame before a holy God, Job still needs a saviour, a mediator.
Praise God for His Indescribable Gift, Jesus Christ, who is the Mediator that Job foresaw, and who is all we need!
Many people have asked about our great-grandson, Aziel. Praise the Lord for his miraculous recovery in answer to all the prayers that were offered up on his behalf. Aziel is healthy and at home where he belongs with his loving family.
Last week we attended two funerals for two young girls. The first had been diagnosed with a lung disease when she was 7. She passed at the age of 20 and her wake and funeral was on Gordon’s First Nation, March 3-4th. The second girl was 29 year old when she passed away due to a Fentanyl overdose on February 26th. Her wake and funeral was on March 7-8th.
If you have been watching the news lately, “Since Feb. 25, Saskatoon Fire Department has responded to over 300 overdoses”. Source: https://www.ctvnews.ca/saskatoon/article/saskatoon-grapples-with-rising-overdose-cases-with-multiple-suspicious-deaths/
I have been very critical of the health system saying that harm reduction efforts have actually caused an increase in drug addictions. Whatever the case may be, I solidly believe that Jesus Christ and concerted prayer is the only remedy for this crisis. I have seen people instantly delivered from addictions, but prayer must be persistent and proportionate to the problem.
The First Part:
Every Tuesday, at 10:30, we have a prayer walk in the North Central community. We have begun to be known in the neighborhood, and this affords us the opportunity to see what God would want to show us and enter those divine appointments He prepares for us.
We long to see disciples walking two by two, praying through the neighborhood on a daily basis. What if a regular sight in North Central was not just the homeless and destitute, but rather Christian disciples walking in pairs through the neighborhood praying every day…
The Second Part:
This Saturday RDP will be hosting its third Indigenous Christian Discussion group at the Peepeekisis Community Centre. It is the pains of the heart, confusion of identity, and the deep questions about life that are often the root causes of addictions. These discussion groups are a launching point for the Regina Discipleship Project to enter those deeper discussions with individuals. Providing a safe, respectful and sacred environment that people can share is an important first step into building trusting discipleship relationships.
The Third Part
Finally, at Gentle Road Church of Christ, our discipleship group continues its journey toward raising up disciples who are equipped and empowered to make disciples. Pastor Kevin Vance shared earlier this week that there is a desperate need for more bible studies but that the current leadership has all we can handle. We need people who are trained and commissioned to make disciples, who make disciples.
So there it is: the Three Parts of Discipleship that Regina Discipleship Project is involved in. We are not called to plant a church. We are called to make disciples, and that is what we are all about. We are looking for prayer, participants, and partners. If you or someone you know would like to become involved, we would love to hear from you.
A couple of specific things to mention in closing:
Regina Discipleship Project and Rising Above Healing Ministries is looking for more Indigenous leadership. Specifically, Board members and a Rising Above National Executive Director. Please pray for these positions and click on the link or let me know if you need more information.
Sawêyihcikêw, Blessings,
