Helliwell’s December 2022 Missions Update

Seasons Greetings

It has been a fast-paced exciting year establishing Rising Above Regina Discipleship Project!

Our focus this year has been on leveraging partnerships with other ministries and organizations to maximize our impact among Indigenous peoples of Southern Saskatchewan. Our main ministerial partnership is with Gentle Road Church where most of our outreach happens. Nick, as the High School Youth Pastor, leads a weekly discipleship group for teens, and Vivian provides hospitality services every Sunday for the congregation.

We are also involved in regular community outreach activities such as prayer walks and clothing or lunch distributions, providing a visible Rising Above presence in Regina.

Nick leads a weekly men’s discipleship group in partnership with Indigenous Christian Fellowship; we help implement practical steps toward Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Celebration Church and Parliament Community Church.

Other ministry partnerships included Westhill Park baptist Church, Avonhurst Pentecostal Church, Salvation Army, Carriers of Hope Inc., as well as White Bear First Nations. Nick contributed a short prayer in our Indigenous language at the first Saskatchewan MLA Prayer Breakfast.

Building partnerships with churches and organizations will provide a strong foundation for the Rising Above Discipleship Project well int the future! We praise the Lord for His leading and guidance and for your continued support!

Defining our Ministry, Discovering Ourselves

We spent a lot of time this past year seeking God’s direction in defining the ministry He has called us to do in Regina. This has proven to be very self-affirming as we discover the freedom to express our Christian Identity through our Indigenous Heritage.

While Cree will never be our first language, being able to offer prayers in Cree has given us powerful insights on who God created us to be as we discover the language of our heritage.
